I grew most of the plant species mentioned in this book. I needed to see how they developed from seed, so I got Walkers to track some seeds down for me. They sent me hundreds, which I distributed among dozens of little plastic plant pots. I covered them with plastic bags to incubate them. I watered them (though not to excess) and pandered to their every seedling whim. They all grew to about half an inch and then died on me. Such ingratitude!
