Roger J Green was so clear about what he wanted from these illustrations, and provided sketches to that end, that I by-passed the reading of the books in the last two because it seemed superfluous. This is the only time I have ever done that. I did visit Derbyshire, however (Bakewell, I think it was) to see the stone and the church on which the story is based. That's the church in the picture.
