CANADIAN CARICATURES

All the political cartoons on this site were done for British consumption. Since we are in Canada now it seems appropriate to do some caricatures of Canadian politicians, so here are a few to set the ball rolling. I'll add more as time permits, and with luck, as I grow to know the personalities and become familiar with their features, I'll get better at drawing them. As my daughter so astutely pointed out, as she appraised my first effort at Stephane Dion: "Dad, why did you make his face come down to a skinny chin? His face doesn't really go like that!" I patiently explained that this was caricature, where you exaggerate things for comic effect. "Yes," she went on," but why not make his face fatter? Then people might know who it is." Out of the mouths...

Oh, well. Here they are anyway. Everyone's an art critic! Make up your own mind. I've gone for the 'big head' style of caricature because I thought it would be interesting to try, and because it forces me to look hard at the subject. I've gone for black and white because it takes less time, and because I rather fancied doing some black and white drawings.
